Who doesn’t love a pie? A good old fashioned Australian meat pie from a good old town bakery! And with the amount of bakeries in every Australian town, we are spoilt for choice with the pies on offer. From plain mince beef pie to creamy chicken pie and even vegetable pies, pies are made for many tastes.
What is a pie?
A pie is a baked dish consisting of a pastry-lined pan or dish filled with sweet or savoury ingredients, then topped with a pastry crust. And these are a quick meal, us Aussies love, particularly with a bit of tomato sauce on top!
Best Aussie Pie and Pastie Competition
Each year, the Australia’s Baking Association runs a competition to find Australia’s best pie. The 2026 Australia’s best pie and pastie competition has been run and won. Here is a list of some of the winners. If you live nearby I’m sure you may have already enjoyed from the bakery however, if you are travelling around Australia why not call in to one of these bakeries (and others) and enjoy a pie. And maybe a Nenish Tart and a coffee too!
