Shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it and sauté it according to Bubba Gump Shrimp Co Australia’s FB page. So, if you love your shrimp or prawns as we call them in Australia, you will be pleased to know Bubba Gump Shrimp Co is opening in Australia.

Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. has been around 3 decades in the US. It started in 1996 when two restauranteurs took a single Forrest Gump monologue – you know the one- and turned it into a shrimp shack on Monterey’s Cannery Row. They figured if Bubba could rattle off twenty-one ways to cook a shrimp, the world could probably eat them. Turns out the world could and has grown to 38 locations across the US, Mexico, Asia, the UK and Europe. And now, Australia.

As of 25 July 2026 it is opening its first restaurant in Australia. You will be able to enjoy shrimp at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co’s restaurant at 94 Rainbow Street, Sandgate 4017. It is one of Brisbane’s bayside suburbs – quite apt for a shrimping business! 

Apparently a lot of Bubba’s recipes – the gumbo, the prawn boil and the coconut prawns are on the menu. And you may even meet ‘Shrimp Louie’.
