Melbourne recently came in 9th in the world for being a liveable city. One of the categories that makes a liveable city is food. And one of the big reasons Melbourne is a liveable city is for its fabulous food and coffee culture amongst other things. If you are visiting Melbourne for a day, weekend or a 7 day visit, one of the best places to experience Melbourne’s food culture is in Hardware Lane. Yep, Hardware Lane, Melbourne is a foodie paradise.
When Melbourne was designed, it was designed on a grid system with lots of roads and laneways. The laneways were originally designed to be service laneways within the Hoddle Grid for access to buildings for deliveries. Over time, these laneways have been transformed into vibrant destinations for locals and visitors to enjoy. The laneways with street art are some of the best in the world. But it is the laneways housing cafes and restaurants that are of particular note. With the best laneway being Hardware Lane that is a foodie paradise.
If you are wondering where to eat in Melbourne, I highly suggest a walk down Hardware Lane will satisfy any hunger craving. And it has cafes and restaurants welcoming solo travellers to Melbourne, couples, groups of friends and families with kids visiting Melbourne. No-one is left out of the Melbourne dining experience in Hardware Lane.

Other Places to Eat in Melbourne
To say Melbourne is the foodie capital of Australia is an understatement. As well as Hardware Lane, there are plenty of places to eat in Melbourne. Other notable areas include Lygon Street in Carlton and the Crown Casino Restaurant Precinct. After Hardware Lane, I would say, if visiting Melbourne head to Lygon Street.
