So, you are travelling Australia either doing the big lap of Australia or on a road trip somewhere and you’re hungry. Your stomach is yelling at you and the kids maybe screaming at you ‘when is it time to eat’ too? You could probably stop in at a bakery, roadhouse, pub or cafe for lunch but instead you see a table and chairs at a roadside stop and decide to stop to make lunch. What are you having? Are you getting sick of having the same thing for lunch every day? I hear you! Here are some good, easy and cheap lunch ideas to have while on the road.

 

Good, Easy and Cheap Lunch Ideas

 

My first question to you is ….. What would you generally have for lunch at home or work? Well, it doesn’t have to change just because you are exploring Australia. Second question ….. Do you normally have a cooked lunch because lunch is your main meal of the day? Third question ….. have you eaten all the road trip snacks? So, there are different things you can have for lunch. Some ideas to keep you fuelled on the road travelling Australia.

 

Sandwiches

 

Sandwiches and Wraps are always a winner.

  • Ham and cheese sandwich (or Toastie) if you have access to an appliance to toast sandwiches
  • Egg and lettuce sandwich
  • Curried egg sandwich
  • Vegemite sandwich or Vegemite and cheese sandwich
  • Wraps – chicken, lettuce, tomato, cheese
  • Cheese and tomato sandwich
  • Meat (silverside, ham, devon, pastrami) with pickles
  • Chicken and avocado

 

Biscuits with Toppings

 

Nothing like a biscuit – SAO, Vitaweat, Rice Cakes, etc with something on top

  • Vegemite
  • Cheese and tomato
  • Avocado

 

Salads

 

  • Tuna salad
  • Chicken salad
  • Leftover BBQ meat (from last night’s dinner) and salad
  • Pasta salad

 

Hot Food

 

  • Cup of Noodles – just need to boil some water
  • Pie or sausage roll
  • Soup
  • Stews
  • Fish and Chips (and sit on the beach)
  • Baked potato with favourite topping
  • Omelette
  • Loaded scrambled eggs

 

Fire up the BBQ (or Cooker)

 

  • BBQ sausage sandwiches
  • 2 minute steak sandwich
  • Pizza
  • Burrito or Chilli Bowl

 

Picnic

 

Yes, have a picnic – a bit of this and a bit of that. Have a sandwich. Serve dip and crackers. Finish of last night’s dinner leftovers.
